Meditation – Writing to your Cells

 

Meditation works even if you’re afraid

We will be adding more guided meditations on this blog in the days and weeks to come. But there are two powerful things you can do right now to begin the calming process, even if your mind is racing.

First, close your eyes.

When we are in panic mode, we have our eyes wide open. By closing your eyes, you can send a deep message of safety. That will begin reversing the fight or flight mode all on its own and it is one thing you have 100% control over.

Second, breathe slowly through your nose.

When we are stressed we lose our breath and the heart follows right into the rapid pace. When you breathe slowly, in to a count of 7 and out to a count of 7, you begin to slow your heart rate. Your heart is hard wired to follow the pace of your breath. AND it is another thing you have 100% control over.

Set a timer.

For at least 5 minutes, breathe slowly with your eyes closed. This is the simplest meditation that anyone can do. It immediately begins calming the fight or flight response, which means that you access the parasympathetic part of your nervous system, the part that rests and digests.

If you can activate that parasympathetic response, then your whole body shifts into healing mode.

We will cover this, affirmations, and other mindfulness and grounding techniques to manage your energy and calm your thoughts during this world-changing event. We’re here for you and we will get through this together.
