Reiki and Meditation Science Experiment!

So, true confession time… I love statistics. I mean I really love them. I love data and analyses and spreadsheets. Yup.

I love it all so much that I created my own stress index, the Robins Holistic Stress Scale, and I have been collecting data in bits and pieces over the last few years on the effect of Reiki and meditation on self-reported stress scores. Oh yeah! How cool am I right now!!! 😀

I am also so supremely happy that I have figured out a way of hosting this experiment on a broader scale here on my website. My plan is to take the aggregated data and determine if there is a difference between the effects of meditation and Reiki. I am so cool right now I can’t even stand it!

All the information you need is below. Just follow the instructions and you will get to test out what works best for YOU, five minutes of meditation, or five minutes of self-healing. The whole thing will probably only take 15 to 20 minutes and you can retake the quiz as often as you would like!

Reiki Science: Robins Holistic Stress Scale

The purpose of this experiment is to test how meditation or self healing works for you to reduce your stress levels.

You will fill out a quiz before and after a 5 minute meditation or self-healing session. You get to pick if you want to meditate or do a short, guided self-healing session.

You don’t need to know Reiki to pick the self healing option. I guide you through the each with short little audio recordings.

The quiz you will be filling out is the Robins Holistic Stress Scale. It is based on the Holmes and Rahe (1967) stress scale, but I updated it to include a better balance of categories. I also let you pick how much each stressor is affecting you. You will rank your stress level in each of 30 categories on a scale from 0 (none) to 10 (the most you have ever felt).

You will be rating how much each of these stressors are affecting your experience RIGHT NOW. Include an event if you have been thinking about it today (even if it occurred many years ago). No need to dredge old stuff up, only include events that are active, on your mind, or affecting your emotional state in this moment. If you are worried about something, mark it as active (yes).

Rate the intensity from 1 to 10, where 1 = Very Mild. (It doesn’t really bother me.)  to  10 = Extreme. (It is all I can think about. I am an emotional mess right now because of this.).

Answer quickly. Take your first response as accurate. No more than 5 seconds per question. No need to overthink it. Usually your first response is the most accurate.

The generalized data (no identifying information) will be used to test if there is any difference between self-healing or meditation. I will post the results from time to time on my blog, so check back here or subscribe to keep up to date on the latest!

At the end, you will have the option of entering your email address so you can receive a copy of your results. This is totally optional.
